如果120分钟后仍未分出胜负，冠军将通过点球大战决出。如果曼城和切尔西在前5轮点球后仍然战平，点球大战将进入突然死亡阶段。
除了在温布利捧起这座备受追捧的奖杯，足总杯冠军还将获得欧足联欧联杯参赛资格。不过，这也可能影响那些通过英超积分榜争夺欧战资格的球队。

如果切尔西击败曼城，并最终排名第8或更低，他们将以足总杯冠军身份获得欧联杯席位，而英超前7名的现有欧战分配保持不变：第1至第5名参加欧冠，第6名参加欧联杯，第7名参加欧协联。
欧战资格争夺中还可能出现另一个变数。阿斯顿维拉将在5月20日星期三的欧联杯决赛中对阵弗赖堡。
维拉目前排名第4，但如果他们赢得欧联杯后最终排名第5，那么英超第6名将获得欧冠资格。
原因是，英格兰俱乐部本赛季在欧战中的表现为英超额外赢得的一个欧冠名额——欧洲表现席位（EPS）——将从第5名顺延至第6名。
不过，如果曼城夺得足总杯，同时维拉赢得欧联杯并最终排名第5，那么一个欧联杯席位将被顺延至其他联赛。
如果维拉赢得欧联杯并最终排名第6，欧协联席位也将被顺延至其他联赛。
